Discounts to ask about
| Program | Discount | You may qualify if |
|---|---|---|
| Low-income discount | 70% to 100% off, depending on household income | You don't qualify for public insurance in your home state; the bill is for emergency or other medically necessary services; household income is below 301% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines; and the bill is not for a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. |
| Specialty care discount | 60% to 100% off, depending on household income | You don't qualify for public insurance in your home state; the care was at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network or McLean Hospital; and the bill is not for a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. |
| Discounted payment plan | 25% off any bill | The bill is not for a copay, coinsurance, or deductible, and you pay or set up a payment plan within two months of the date on your first bill. |
| Payment plan | 0% interest monthly plan | Any bill you're having trouble paying, even a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. |
For scale, using the 2026 poverty level of $15,960 for one person and $33,000 for a family of four, 301% works out to about $48,000 and $99,300. That is Billmira's own arithmetic, not a figure Mass General Brigham publishes, and the hospital applies its own current guideline table. The page does not say which incomes get 70% and which get 100%, so ask when you apply.
Massachusetts residents: state programs first
Mass General Brigham says Massachusetts residents may be able to get insurance or help with bills through MassHealth, the Health Connector, or Health Safety Net, each with its own income limits. The hospital's discounts apply to people who don't qualify for public insurance in their home state, so a counselor may ask you to check these programs. New Hampshire and Maine residents are pointed to their own state websites.
How to apply

The page warns: "Take action right away. There may be time limits that apply." It does not list a deadline, so ask when you call, and note the two-month window for the 25% prompt-pay discount.
While you wait
Keep copies of everything you send and note the date. Ask the billing office to hold the account while your application is reviewed.
